Medically reviewed by Dr Khizer Hussain Junaidy, MD Pharmacology, Diabetologist & Bariatric Physician, on 23 Oct 2026.
What it is for
At low doses (75 to 150 mg), it thins the blood to prevent heart attack and stroke in people who have had one, or who have had a stent. Some other high-risk people also take it, but only when a doctor advises it. It is not for everyone.
How to take it
Take it once a day after food.
Common side effects
- Acidity or stomach upset.
- Easy bruising.
Call your doctor if
- Black stools, vomiting blood, or blood in urine.
- Bleeding that does not stop.
Take care
Tell the doctor if you have had a stomach ulcer or bleeding, or if aspirin has caused asthma or an allergy. Do not take with painkillers like ibuprofen or diclofenac unless the doctor knows. Tell the dentist or surgeon you take it.
From our clinic: Do not stop on your own after a stent or heart attack.
